Special Services Offered at the Safra Children’s Hospital
Highly Advanced Treatment for Childhood Cancers
At the Pediatric Hemato-Oncology Division, we treat children with a diverse range of cancers. Our modern facilities include the Pediatric Oncology Outpatient Clinic, the Inpatient Unit, and an advanced Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit. Most of our therapies and procedures are performed on an ambulatory basis, maximizing children’s comfort by minimizing the amount of time they need to spend in the hospital. Our team of pediatric specialists, including doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists, and creative arts therapists, collaborate to provide supportive, multidisciplinary care.
CAR T-Cell Therapy
CAR T-cell therapy is a highly specialized, innovative treatment for blood cancer that works by transforming the patient’s white blood cells and programming them to become cancer killers. When other blood cancer treatments have failed, CAR T-cell therapy has shown encouraging results, putting some cancers into remission. This personalized treatment is only available at a handful of cancer centers worldwide, including Sheba Medical Center in Israel. At the Safra Children’s Hospital, we offer CAR T-cell therapy for children with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) and leukemia.
Congenital Heart Disease Treatment
We offer an array of advanced therapies and procedures to treat congenital heart disease, helping children to overcome the problem and live a normal adult life. Our highly qualified team includes experienced cardiothoracic surgeons and world-class specialists. At our premier International Congenital Heart Center, pediatric surgeons can perform cardiac surgery on babies who weigh less than 2.5 kg. We also offer a unique, minimally invasive procedure that does not cause scarring.
What Patients Say

“I now know for sure that cancer is not a death sentence. Our time at Sheba convinced me of this.”
When Yulia Egorov’s son, Ivan, was diagnosed with leukemia, she brought him from Russia to the Safra Children’s Hospital at Sheba Medical Center in Israel for treatment. Ivan received advanced chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, and he was cured. Now, eight years later, Ivan lives life just like other kids.

“I have been meeting people here in Slovenia with children who have similar heart conditions. With no hesitation, I tell them – Israel is where you need to go! No distance is too great to travel when it comes to saving your child’s life.”
At 32 weeks gestation, Gabriel Lesnik was born in Slovenia and diagnosed with two serious heart diseases. Local doctors were not able to provide treatment, so Gabriel’s parents researched worldwide for the best hospital to save their son. They decided upon Sheba, where Gabriel underwent an extremely complex, life-saving surgery.
