Sheba Medical Center is currently overseeing a study employing new technology for breast imaging developed by a start-up company in Israel, Real Imaging.

Sheba physicians dominate the Forbes magazine 2017 list of the best doctors. Of the 873 doctors that made the list, one-fifth call Sheba Medical Center home. In fact, Sheba has more doctors on the list than any other medical center in Israel. Sheba physicians particularly shone through in the area of women’s medicine, making up about 40% of all doctors in that specialty.

In a first in Israel, Sheba Medical Center has achieved remission in a pediatric patient’s leukemia through CAR T-cell therapy. This innovative therapy is still only in clinical trials in the US, but has shown excellent results in over 70% of patients. An advanced type of laser surgery for the removal of tumors in the urinary system is currently in use at Sheba Medical Center. This procedure allows tumors to be excised while sparing urinary organs, such as the kidneys and ureters. This allows patients to have a faster recovery and avoid complications like dialysis.

The direct of Sheba’s IVF Unit, Prof. Raoul Orvieto, has been appointed editor in chief of the prestigious international journal Reproductive Biology & Endocrinology. The IVF unit at Sheba is renowned for its expert treatment of both female and male fertility issues and offers a wide range of advanced therapies.

The Danieli Award is given in recognition of profound empathy and dedication in medical staff. It was recently awarded to two Sheba staff members, nurse Gili Gilat and Dr. Yoram Neumann of the Pediatric Hemato-Oncology Department.
