Sheba Medical Center and Swiss-based CDMO Lonza Pharma recently announced a new collaborative venture to use the cutting-edge CocoonTM manufacturing platform to develop point-of-care CAR T-cell therapy. This joint project aims to streamline the in-house cell manufacturing process, thereby enabling a greater amount of critically ill oncology patients to access genetically engineered human CAR T-cells more efficiently.

Jacob Zauberman, MD, is a Senior Physician in the Department of Neurosurgery. This department at Sheba is the leader in its field in Israel, and Dr. Zauberman is a highly requested physician on staff. It started quite simply in 2016, one day Aleksey find a lump on the right side of the neck. However, doctors suspected that something was wrong and sent him to a cervical lymph node biopsy. The diagnosis carcinoma shocked him. Trying to find out the way from this situation, Aleksey remembered that his friend had passed the successful treatment at Sheba clinic. That is why he decided to travel to Israel for medical treatment.

The award, given to Prof. Benjamin Dekel and Prof. Yehuda Shoenfeld, is granted to those who have achieved innovative breakthroughs and made a significant contribution to the field of medicine or professional research in a field in Israel and abroad, in basic research and clinical research.
