FAU is one of a few universities in the world to partner with an international medical center for the purpose of emergency management training. 33 students participated in the intensive course and learned the best ways to respond to large-scale emergencies. Topics and interactive workshops were conducted with active emergency scenarios to help develop leadership skills and effective recovery efforts.
The Sheba team comprised many global leaders who have traveled the world to administer care in a wide range of large-scale disasters. The instructors included Prof. Yitshak Kreiss, MD, former Surgeon General of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Director General of Sheba Medical Center, Prof. Elhanan Bar-On, Director of the Israel Center for Disaster Medicine and Humanitarian Response, Prof. Kobi Peleg, Director of The National Center for Trauma & Emergency Medicine Research in The Gertner Institute for Health Policy & Epidemiology, Dr. Yoram Klein, Director of the Trauma and Acute Surgery in Sheba, and Dr. Ross Gross, a senior psychiatrist and PTSD specialist.
The course ran from October 14 – 20. On Friday, October 19, the media was invited to attend and observe the first responders and medical teams in action. On that day, interviews were also conducted with Israeli humanitarian medical experts and FAU officials to highlight this historic collaboration.
