PRRT Treatment in Israel – Targeted Therapy for NETs
Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy (PRRT) is an innovative therapy to treat gastro-entero-pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, also termed NETs. PRRT aims to relieve the patient’s symptoms, slow or stop tumor progression, and improve overall survival. It is a part of the cutting-edge field of theranostics, which employs a highly personalized approach to medicine. Top specialists at The Institute of Endocrinology at Sheba Medical Center in Israel administer PRRT to patients who qualify.

How does PRRT work?
PRRT is performed by injecting customized radiopeptides into the patient’s vein, which bind to somatostatin receptors on the cells of the neuroendocrine tumor. The radioactive compounds of these radiopeptides are then absorbed into the tumor, administering a high dose directly into the cancer cells. Radiation exposure to healthy body tissues is thereby limited. The delivery of PRRT and other necessary medications, such as amino acids to protect the kidneys, takes about 4-5 hours in total.
