West Bank and Gaza Medical Professionals Attend a Milestone Sheba Oncology Conference

REACT
Highlighting the latest in cancer care, with a particular focus on pediatrics, the Recent Advances in Cancer Care (REACT) 2023 event was attended by more than 100 doctors, healthcare executives, medical students, and Palestinian officials from the West Bank and Gaza strip.

As part of the REACT 2023 regional conference, which took place on Monday, March 20th, Sheba’s premier physicians showcased the latest in oncologic care, focusing on pediatrics, marking a significant breakthrough for Israeli-Palestinian medical cooperation.

A leader in clinical care, research, and innovation, Sheba is committed to not only offering world-class care to all patients, regardless of race, religion, or gender, but also sharing our knowledge and expertise with colleagues around the world: helping ensure, in accordance with our creed ‘Hope Without Boundaries,’ that everyone can benefit from quality care. This is particularly important when it comes to our immediate neighbors in the West Bank and Gaza. Read this article in Arabic.

“We are hosting our Palestinian colleagues not just to share the latest innovations and advancements in pediatric cancer treatment, but because collaboration with Palestinian physicians and health institutions is key to advancing healthcare in the region,” said Prof. Itai Pessach, Director of the Edmond and Lily Safra Children’s Hospital during the event. “We are committed to working together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients, and to promote peace and cooperation in the field of medicine.”

Dedicated to improving healthcare in the region, Sheba previously initiated several joint initiatives with Palestinian hospitals to offer specialized medical training as well as education, and has also been providing telemedicine services to hospitals and clinics in the West Bank, allowing Palestinian physicians to consult with our specialists on complex cases. The REACT 2023 regional conference is the latest development in Sheba’s ongoing efforts.

“This gathering marks a historic moment for Sheba Medical Center and healthcare in the region, explains Raied Balum, Director of Regional Patient Services at Sheba and the conference’s chief organizer. “Today, we are starting a new journey together, one that will continue to strengthen the ties between us. This event is a testament to our shared commitment to providing the best possible care to all patients. I look forward to seeing its positive impact in the years to come.”

Sheba Director General, Prof. Yitshak Kreiss, concluded: “We are the largest hospital in Israel and the Middle East, and we are a very good one. As a leading regional and global healthcare institution, we have another role in the region: to serve as an engine for peace. This means not only providing the best medical care and sharing expertise, but also creating connections, both professional and personal, between us here and everyone in the region who is willing to be our partner and friend, cultivating coexistence and friendship.”
