Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplants in Israel & Treatment of Hematological Disorders in Children

At our Pediatric Hemato-Oncology Department, we diagnose and treat a range of blood malignancies in children, using the latest frontline therapies and a compassionate approach. Our department features a cutting-edge Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic with private procedure rooms for children suffering from various oncological and hematological conditions.

Our team of world-recognized specialists, including hematologists, oncologists, and radiation oncologists, provide personalized hematological treatments using advanced techniques, such as CAR T-cell therapy and TIL immunotherapy.

Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplants

What Types of Bone Marrow Transplants Do We Provide?

At our Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant unit, we perform:

  • Autologous transplants, taken from the patient’s own stem cells, to treat solid tumors in children. These are generally sourced from peripheral blood that is frozen and preserved.
  • Allogeneic transplants, using donor tissue, usually from a genetically suitable family member.
  • Haploidentical stem cell transplants (a type of allogeneic transplant), which uses cells from a half-matched donor, usually a family member.

When necessary, Sheba collaborates with the National Marrow Donor Program to identify suitable tissue donors. We also use an advanced HLA (human leukocyte antigen) laboratory to analyze bone marrow for suitability. The HLA lab can perform high-resolution DNA testing to aid in evaluating stem cells to determine if they are a good match.

Our pediatric bone marrow transplant experts also report regularly to the International Bone Marrow Transplant Registry (IBMTR) and to the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) on our clinical results.

What Hematological Conditions Do We Treat?

  • Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL)
  • Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)
  • Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL)
  • Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML)
  • Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL)
  • Hodgkin Lymphoma
  • Osteosarcoma >

CAR T-Cell Therapy

Sheba’s Hemato-Oncology Department is one of only a few medical facilities in the world to offer this revolutionary treatment for blood cancer. CAR T-cell therapy programs the patient’s own altered white blood cells to kill cancer cells. It has led to many positive outcomes, putting cancer into remission in many patients who did not respond to other treatment methods. CAR T-cell therapy is highly specialized and personalized to consider each individual’s unique needs and overall well-being.
