How to detect multiple myeloma early?

Multiple myeloma may be discovered incidentally in blood tests for other conditions or prompted by symptoms. Diagnostic tests include blood tests for M proteins, beta-2-microglobulin, and assessments of kidney function, blood cells, calcium and uric acid levels. Urine tests detect Bence Jones proteins. A bone marrow biopsy and aspiration is used to analyze samples for myeloma cells, while imaging tests like X-rays and MRI, CT or PET scans identify bone issues associated with the disease.
