Do myeloma bone lesions heal?

Myeloma bone lesions result from the overactivity of osteoclasts (cells that break down bone) and decreased activity of osteoblasts (cells that build bone). While treatments for multiple myeloma, such as bisphosphonates, can help prevent further bone damage and alleviate pain, existing lesions may not fully “heal” or regenerate. That said, with successful myeloma treatment, the progression of bone disease can be halted, and in some cases, there may be some degree of repair or improvement in bone density.
