Can you have multiple myeloma with normal blood work?
It’s possible, especially in early stages or specific cases of multiple myeloma, for routine blood work to appear normal. While many patients with myeloma have abnormalities on blood tests, like elevated levels of calcium or decreased kidney function, some might not exhibit these changes. Specialized tests, such as serum protein electrophoresis or bone marrow biopsy, are more definitive for diagnosis. If multiple myeloma is suspected based on symptoms or other findings, a thorough evaluation beyond basic blood tests is necessary.
