Can you have multiple myeloma and leukemia at the same time?

While rare, it’s possible for an individual to have both multiple myeloma and leukemia simultaneously or sequentially. Both are hematological malignancies, but they arise from different cell lines within the bone marrow. Having one condition doesn’t protect against developing the other. The simultaneous occurrence might be due to shared risk factors, genetic predispositions, or secondary malignancies arising from treatments. It’s essential for a comprehensive diagnostic workup to differentiate and develop appropriate treatment strategies.
