Can multiple myeloma cause breast cancer?
Multiple myeloma and breast cancer are distinct diseases with different cellular origins. There is no evidence suggesting that multiple myeloma directly causes breast cancer. However, some treatments for myeloma, like certain types of radiation or medications, might slightly increase the risk of developing secondary malignancies, including breast cancer. It is crucial to note that the overall risk remains low. Regular cancer screenings, including mammograms for breast cancer, are advised for patients with a history of any cancer, ensuring early detection and intervention if another cancer develops.
