Natalia’s Road to Recovery from Cervical Cancer at Sheba

Recovery from Cervical Cancer
Natalia, a patient of Sheba’s recounts her experience at the hospital and road to recovery from Cervical Cancer. After failed treatment in Moscow, she turned to Sheba Medical Center in Israel for what would later be life-saving treatment.

Nataliya, a patient of Sheba’s shares her story: I was first diagnosed with cervical cancer when back in 1994. I was 22. I had irradiation and chemotherapy in the regional center. Then a year later there was a relapse, irradiation, and chemotherapy in Moscow. After 2 years we succeeded to stop the process. The second time I was diagnosed with cervical cancer was in 2011.

In Russia, from all of the available treatment methods, I was offered only chemotherapy. Due to the previously received large doses of irradiation brachytherapy was contraindicated for me.

The radical operations were not done at the time. I had a feeling that the whole world is against me. I am so young, why? What for?

By the advice of people I knew I wrote an email to Sheba Medical Center in Israel. The specialist contacted me, and he suggested I come to Israel for treatment. Suddenly, there was hope.

During the consultation, I received a recommendation for an operation. I deliberated for quite some time. I could not imagine a life with a stoma. I decided to have chemotherapy done first. It helped, but not for a long time. The disease came back.

There was only one way out – an operation. Difficult, without any guarantee that I will survive, but it was a chance.

I will be grateful my whole life to the doctors, who performed a miracle. They gave me a life

Natalia's Road to Recovery from Cervical Cancer at Sheba

The rehabilitation process was very lengthy and difficult. Decisions were done promptly and professionally. Not everything is measured in money. First of all, people working in the clinic are very sensitive, attentive and not indifferent to the sorrow of others. I am grateful to my medical coordinator – Verochka Gerov, my family, for all the support and love.

A massive thanks to the brigade of specialists, who did the operation: Professor Ben Baruh, Dr. Korach, Dr. Bayner, Dr. Dotan, and to all the medical support team.

What can be more valuable than happiness? I would always recommend Sheba Medical Center for its professionalism and modern, advanced treatments.
