Kidney Transplantation in Israel
Kidney transplantation is a life-saving option for patients who suffer end-stage renal disease. Without functional kidneys, patients face either long-term dialysis or the hope of undergoing a kidney transplant. Sheba Medical Center has a comprehensive organ transplants unit. Our expert medical team brings vast experience and an interdisciplinary approach to every patient, providing personalized, comprehensive, and compassionate care.

Treatment for End-Stage Renal Failure
End-stage kidney failure is not reversible. While dialysis may offer a time-consuming therapy to filter your blood, a kidney transplant is the only “cure”. The donor kidney can be received from a living donor who is a relative of the patient (not from foreign donors), and it must be a compatible tissue match in order to prevent rejection. At Sheba Medical Center, we will investigate the match thoroughly based on tissue typing, blood compatibility, and tissue cross match.
Since our new kidney transplant unit was opened in 2016, we have performed many successful transplants.

Innovative Treatment Research at Sheba
Breakthrough research conducted by a joint team from Sheba Medical Center, Tel Aviv University, and Stanford University, has discovered that cellular growth is constantly occurring in the kidney. In practice, that means the human kidney can regenerate itself inside your body.
This new regenerative therapy has tremendous potential, possibly eliminating the need for a kidney transplant in many cases. At present, our researchers are developing techniques to enhance cellular growth so that patients can regenerate their own kidneys.
