IVF – Helping People with Infertility Have Babies

IVF – Helping People with Infertility Have Babies
Since IVF was introduced in 1978, it has led to the birth of more than 8 million babies worldwide.

In vitro fertilization (IVF) describes a complex series of procedures that can be performed for a variety of infertility issues. It is regarded as the most effective type of assisted reproductive technology available. IVF is also done to help prevent genetic problems and assist with conception. In sum, the process involves the collection of mature eggs from ovaries and their fertilization by sperm in a laboratory. The embryo(s), which are the fertilized egg(s), are then placed in the uterus to develop and grow until they are ready to be born.
