From Nigeria to Israel: Jeremiah Onubi and His Wife Aishetu Travel to Sheba for Premier Medical Care

Premier Medical Care in Israel
For the past eight years, Jeremiah and Aishetu Onubi have been travelling from their homeland Nigeria to Sheba Medical Center in Israel. Jeremiah is a professional medical specialist who served as the director of a military hospital in Nigeria for many years. Aishetu is an experienced teacher. When both husband and wife required comprehensive, state-of-the-art medical services, they decided to find the best possible care outside of Nigeria. They immediately began researching to identify which international healthcare facility would provide them with the advanced medical treatments that they sought.

Following his own exceptional experience at Sheba Medical Center, one of Jeremiah’s close friends strongly recommended the hospital in Tel Hashomer, Israel. Jeremiah explored the idea further and became convinced that Sheba, one of Newsweek’s Top 10 Hospitals in the World, was indeed the best place for him and his wife.

For years, Aishetu suffered from hypertension and cardiomyopathy and required specialized therapy. She arrived in Israel in 2013 for initial consultations with the Sheba medical team that custom-designed her treatment. Prof. Michael Arad, Senior Physician at the Heart Failure Institute and Center for Cardiomyopathy and Hereditary Heart Disease, evaluated her condition and treated her conservatively for a few years.

In 2017, it was determined that Aishetu required mitral valve replacement surgery. Dr. Leonid Sternik, Director of the Department of Cardiac Surgery, performed the lifesaving procedure – which was regarded as successful. Following the complex valve replacement procedure, Aishetu had a rapid recovery at Sheba. Currently, her cardiac status and overall well-being remains stable, and she returns for annual follow-up exams. All in all, Aishetu is extremely satisfied with the entire course of treatment she received from the cardiac experts at Sheba.

Jeremiah underwent several helpful medical procedures during his time at Sheba. Most recently, Dr. Arkadi Yakirevich, Senior Physician at the Department of Otolaryngology, performed functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS), a progressive sinus surgery that is generally done for people with chronic sinus problems who do not respond to medical therapy.

Jeremiah shares, “I was extremely pleased with my experience at Sheba Medical Center in Israel. Now, my wife and I continue to travel to Sheba every few years for the medical treatments that we need. As an experienced medical doctor myself, I have a great appreciation for the outstanding qualifications of the physicians who treat us. They care deeply for each individual patient, practicing medicine with professional expertise and a compassionate, personal touch.

Also, Rima, our personal medical coordinator, accompanies us throughout every step of our time at Sheba – helping with whatever we need and making our stay at the hospital more pleasant and convenient. With a very professional, upbeat, and empathetic manner, she is our point of contact for every interaction with the hospital staff.

Aishetu and I highly recommend Sheba Medical Center for anyone who wants to receive the best medical care possible. We have already advised a few of our friends to visit Sheba, too!”
