Fighting Malignant Meningioma – Makpal’s Inspiring Story

Fighting Malignant Meningioma
I am very grateful to the doctors at Sheba Medical Center as they helped not only me but my mother as well.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Makpal and I am from Kazakhstan. I was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2008, in a clinic in Almaty, Kazakhstan. We had to choose between Germany, Turkey, and Israel for treatment. Based on the recommendation of our relative, who had undergone treatment at Sheba Medical Center, to arrange all treatment details with the Global patient services – we decided to go to Israel.

It was very hard for me to recover from the flight from Kazakhstan to Israel and I was very glad an ambulance met me at the airport. I was admitted to the ER just after arrival and received an IV infusion. The doctors prepared me for examination and transferred me to my room, so I was able to get acquainted with my physician.

Fighting Malignant Meningioma . Makpal's inspiring story. Doctor Zvi Cohen was the main physician that treated Makpal.
Dr. Zvi Cohen, Deputy Director of the Department of Neurosurgery

My diagnosis – malignant meningioma – was verified by Israeli specialists and I was lucky to be treated by Dr. Zvi Cohen, Deputy Director of the Department of Neurosurgery.

The surgery was very extensive and lasted 11 hours. My postoperative recovery took 24 hours, but in spite of it all I was surprised that the entire treatment wasn’t difficult and passed by with no side effects. Since my disease was malignant, I traveled back to Israel a month after my surgery to undergo radiotherapy. After that, I stayed at home for 5 years until 2013, when a follow-up examination in Israel revealed that my disease had relapsed, and I underwent radiotherapy once again. I have been OK ever since.

I would also like to tell you about my mother, Myriam, who has been treated for stage 3 sigmoid cancer at Sheba Medical Center since 2014.

Israel turned became our second home – where all our diseases have been treated. Both of us are very grateful to the Global patient services at Sheba Medical Center, where we were met and helped by professional Russian-speaking coordinators. In 2008, it was a small staff, and now each of them is responsible for a specific type of treatment. All the coordinators are well-educated, positive, helpful and well-wishing.

Based on my and my mother’s treatment I strongly recommend only Israel, and only Sheba, to everybody who is in need of treatment abroad. You don’t need to look for an agent, you just need to turn to the Global patient services.

Best,

Makpal
