The National Multiple Sclerosis Center At Sheba Medical Center

Our National Multiple Sclerosis Center provides integrative care for those suffering from MS and treats about 60% of all Israeli MS patients. The center is unique in that it offers both advanced medicine to current patients as well as cutting edge research into the treatment and prevention of MS.

Around 14,000 patients are seen each year in Sheba’s National Multiple Sclerosis Center, with about 50 patients being newly diagnosed annually.

Our approach to MS treatment is wholly integrative, with a complete diagnostic and treatment center located in a single facility. Specialists from orthopedics, neurology, immunology, physiatry, and other disciplines come to together in consultation to offer our patients the best treatments available.

These treatments, which include pharmaceuticals, physiotherapy, and counseling, are geared towards enabling our patients to have the maximum function possible and live their lives independently.

Diagnostics

Specialized diagnostics include a MRI analysis unit that is dedicated to our MS patients. This sensitive device can measure MS lesions and give data on lesion change over time. This allows our clinicians to evaluate patients’ responses to therapy and better characterize their disease.

Additional research into diagnostic techniques is ongoing at our National Multiple Sclerosis Center. This includes analysis of genetic expression, future disability predictions, and quantification of brain lesions in MS patients. This research will open the window in the future to both new treatments and better diagnostic tool

Research

This is constant advanced researched ongoing at the National Multiple Sclerosis Center. Some of this takes place in our laboratories, the Neuro-Immunology Laboratory and the Neuro-Molecular Gene Expression Laboratory. These laboratories search for effective immune-based MS treatments and strive to determine the role of genetic expression in MS.

Continuous MS research is being conducted at the National Multiple Sclerosis Center. This includes T-cell vaccination, investigations into the effects of certain compounds on fatigue commonly experienced by MS patients, and studies of the treatment potential of the antibody natalizumab. These include T-cell vaccination trials, investigations into the effects of certain compounds on fatigue commonly experienced by MS patients, and studies of the treatment potential of the antibody natalizumab.
