Endometriosis Treatment Center

Endometriosis Treatment Center

Sheba’s Endometriosis Treatment Center, the first of its kind in Israel, brings together gynecologists, laparoscopic surgeons, fertility specialists, endocrinologists, pain experts, and medical researchers to form a multidisciplinary treatment team.

The center focuses on early detection and treatment of the disease at any stage, research of the disorder and its side effects, support for endometriosis patients, and the development of public awareness of the illness.

Dedicated to providing our patients with the best possible care, the center continuously develops new endometriosis treatments through independent research as well as collaboration with other leading clinics.
Among other advanced services, the world-class clinical team at Sheba’s Endometriosis Treatment Center provides diagnostic and surgical laparoscopy, hysterectomy, advanced medication, and hormone therapy.

Endometriosis

Endometriosis Overview

Endometriosis is a common chronic disorder in women in which tissue similar to the lining of your uterus (the endometrium) spreads outside the uterine cavity.

The endometrial-like tissue thickens, breaks down, and bleeds with every menstrual cycle, and over time, the broken-down tissue has nowhere to go and becomes trapped in the pelvic area. When endometriosis involves the ovaries, cysts called endometriomas may form, surrounding tissue can become irritated, and eventually, scarring can develop, causing pelvic tissues and organs to stick together.

Diagnostics and Treatments

Endometriosis has no cure, but its symptoms can be managed. Medical and surgical options are available to help reduce your symptoms and address any potential complications. Treatment options include: pain medication, hormone therapy, and surgery. In cases where the main symptom is pain, the most common treatments are medication and hormone therapy. In addition to the aforementioned treatments, The Endometriosis Treatment Center at Sheba Offers:

  • Diagnostic laparoscopy: a diagnostic laparoscopy is a surgical, diagnostic procedure used to examine the organs inside the abdomen, as well as other closed spaces, such as the knees. It’s a low-risk, minimally invasive procedure that requires only small incisions. Laparoscopy has been recognized as the gold standard for endometriosis diagnosis and has been used for the surgical treatment of endometriosis.
  • Endometriosis laparoscopic surgery treats mild to severe cases through a small incision in your abdomen where a tiny tube with a camera (laparoscope) is inserted. Your surgeon can remove any endometriosis scarring and lesions during the laparoscopy, as well.

Endometriosis and Infertility

While Endometriosis does not necessarily cause infertility, it is associated with fertility problems. Even with severe endometriosis, natural conception is still possible.

Recognizing that pregnant women with endometriosis have unique needs and can suffer from particular complications, Sheba’s Endometriosis Treatment Center also includes a dedicated pregnancy monitoring department.
