Colon Cancer – Risks, Screening Tests, and Treatments

Colon cancer begins in the large intestine, in the final part of the digestive tract. Starting as small, benign polyps on the inside of the colon, this disease most commonly affects older adults. Over time, the polyps can develop into cancerous tumors, often without any symptoms. Regular screening tests, such as a fecal occult blood test and colonoscopy, can prevent colon cancer by detecting polyps and having them removed while they are still non-cancerous.
