On the Cutting-edge: CAR T-Cell Therapy for Leukemia and Lymphoma
Advanced medical technology has led to the development of CAR T-cell therapy, a breakthrough treatment for ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia) and NHL (non-Hodgkin lymphoma). In a highly specialized laboratory procedure, the patient’s own white blood cells are modified before being returned to the body, where they find and bond with tumor cells to kill them off. Only one injection of this highly personalized treatment is necessary because the cells stay active in the body for months. This therapy for ALL and NHL is available at only a few cancer centers worldwide, including Sheba Medical Center in Israel.
